I agree with you, Sara. Koyuki Kato would really have made a better Geisha. At the very least, her accent would have sounded more authentic.
I have nothing against Zhang Ziyi. As a matter of fact, her picture is my avatar. It's just that I didn't feel she portrayed the character of a Geisha that well.
Now with regard to the eyes, I don't think they could really have done much about that since having light-colored eyes (should have been grey) was what made Sayuri quite unique.
i have nothing against Zhang Ziyi either! i love her as an actress, i just think that a true geisha or maiko would have made the movie just more authentic. But what can you expect when the movie is made by westerners? :) there are so many wrong scenes in the movie that it's sad already. They could have used the right hairstyles and make up styles and at least try to make it as real as possible.
and i have to agree with you, the light-colored eyes did make her unique and incredibly pretty.
